About Me

My name is Jen Hathorn. I'm a family medicine physician. Since January 2015 I have been living in Egbe Nigeria, which is in Kogi State. I am serving at a bush hospital practicing full spectrum family medicine. I am working with an organization called World Medical Mission which is a part of Samaritan's Purse. This blog is my place to stay connected with you through stories, meditations and pictures. I hope that you enjoy reading the posts!

Life is a vapor
An essence of such
A breath drawn from heaven
An exhale of love
Eyes cannot see it, shrouded in skin
One simply knows it
As if knowing a kin
For life feels life
Across any divide
No language no culture no color can hide
The instant connection
Life drawn to itself
A sudden reflection
A grand commonwealth
But twisted our nature
Like everything else
Life’s often unnoticed
Until its snuffed out
For what starts in an instant
Withdraws much the same
By violence, by nature, surrounded by pain
The exit of life
A shock to the soul
The sudden knowing
All is not whole
The form resting before you
Now a shell — once a life
Deep utter silence
The absence of strife
In that moment of knowing
Thick quiet reigns
And the life inside me
Cries out pain
A jealous awareness
One life has passed
Beyond human reach
To the expanse ever vast
How my life yearns, to finally soar
To leave behind boundaries
To open the doors
To all things eternal
Where death cannot sting
Where tears hold no misery
Where cries no more ring
To walk unencumbered
To laugh without guilt
To dance in true freedom
To live to the hilt………

I gasp in the air
My life still remains
My season of living on earth
Yet to wane
