About Me

My name is Jen Hathorn. I'm a family medicine physician. Since January 2015 I have been living in Egbe Nigeria, which is in Kogi State. I am serving at a bush hospital practicing full spectrum family medicine. I am working with an organization called World Medical Mission which is a part of Samaritan's Purse. This blog is my place to stay connected with you through stories, meditations and pictures. I hope that you enjoy reading the posts!

My Favorite Things...

This tune was in my head all day from the 'Sound of Music' so I changed a few of the words to make if work for me here in Egbe! Hopefully it won't get stuck in your head like it did for me (evil little laugh)...

Plantain chips crunchy with brown peanut butter
Carrots and coke for a snack don't tell mother
The spiciest red sauce on white rice and beans
These are a few of my favorite things.

Power that's on I can open my fridge door
Sweat drops that shine on my nose and white forehead
Freezing cold showers I take before bed
These are a few of my favorite things

When the snakes bite, when the bugs sting
When I'm missing home
I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don't feel----so bad

Everyone yelling, "It's a white girl at market!"

Church that's so raucous you can hear it for miles
The silliest sounds that I'm trying to speak
These are a few of my favorite things

When the snakes bite, when the bugs sting
When I'm missing home
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel----so bad
